The silver resin (equivalent to BIORESIN BW 05) is a special resin for water softening systems that prevents the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms in the resin bed, particularly at low water flow rates or when the system is left idle for long periods. Silver is dissolved in the resin, providing a natural antibacterial effect without altering the taste or smell of the water.
How silver resin works
The silver in the resin prevents bacteria from easily colonising and multiplying in the ion exchange bed. This effect is maintained even when the water softener is backwashed or regenerated as normal, as the silver is not simply washed out. Furthermore, silver resin can be easily installed in existing systems.
Silver resin is not approved as a drinking water disinfectant in the legal sense and may therefore not be used for direct drinking water treatment in the EU (exception: Switzerland).
